Tomb of the Mask is a vertical maze climber with one rule: swipe a direction and you slide until something stops you. No walking, no half steps. You're a masked figure in a retro-looking tomb, and every move is a commitment. The first thing I felt was the panic of sliding somewhere I didn't mean to, into a trap I had seen and misjudged.
What keeps you climbing is that the maze is readable if you slow down and deadly if you don't. Each stretch is a small route problem: which wall to stop on, when to double back for a pickup, when a moving trap means waiting a beat. Then you get greedy, and greed is how every run of mine ended. Power-ups turn up along the way, and the App Store listing promises more powers than wall-climbing.
Complaints: the difficulty ramps steeply, and a couple of layouts felt built to kill you once before you could read them. On a phone your thumb sometimes covers the exact tile you need to see, and the flickering art, which I love, gave a friend a headache in ten minutes.
Play it if you like arcade games with sharp edges, Pac-Man mazes or die-and-retry platformers. Skip it if you want to relax; this game wants your full attention.

You never choose how far to go, only which wall to stop on, so the game is about reading the room before you move.
Tips for the hard levels
- Read the whole screen before swiping. The first swipe is the one that kills you. Take a second to spot the traps and the walls you can safely stop on.
- Use walls as brakes. A wall you slide into is a free stop. Route through the maze wall to wall and you'll never overshoot into a trap.
- Count the moving traps. Anything that moves has a rhythm. Watch it twice, then go when it's furthest from your line, not when it's closest.
- Skip pickups that cost a risky slide. Greed ended most of my runs. A detour past a trap for a few extra points isn't worth a restart from the bottom.
- Play tricky layouts on desktop. Keys don't cover the screen. If a level keeps killing you on a phone, try it with arrow keys and a full view.
Tomb of the Mask vs Pac-Man
The comparison people reach for is Pac-Man, and it's fair: a maze, a lone figure, things to collect, things that kill you, and a retro look. The difference is movement. Pac-Man lets you turn at any junction; here you slide until you hit a wall, so a maze that would be trivial in Pac-Man becomes a small puzzle about where you can stop. The other difference is direction. Pac-Man is a loop; Tomb of the Mask is a climb, and the pressure is upward. If Pac-Man is a stroll around the block, this is running up stairs in the dark.
