TubeGames verdict

A cat-and-couch game you check on rather than play; lovely for ten minutes at a time, and that's the point.

Adorable Home is a decorating game that mostly happens while you're away. You and your partner have moved into a bare place with a couch, a table, a TV stand and a cat named Snow. My first feeling was that there was nothing to do; my second was that this was fine. Make a meal, feed the cat, and love, the currency, trickles in.

Love buys furniture, and furniture makes the rooms yours. It also buys more cats, and more cats mean more of the little moments the game is about: a cat asleep in a box, two on the windowsill, something you catch with the retro camera for the album. Rooms unlock one at a time, a garden brings woodland visitors, and there are mini-games with the cats. The rhythm is check in, collect, buy one thing, close it.

The complaints are honest ones. It's passive; sit and stare and nothing happens. The developer says come back every couple of hours, and that's the design. Pricier furniture takes ages to afford. And it isn't a kids' game: the store listing flags mature themes and the odd revealing outfit.

Play it if you liked Neko Atsume and want a house to fill as well as cats to collect. Skip it if you need something to do with your hands now.

Good

  • The cats do things worth a screenshot
  • Every room ends up looking like yours
  • Snapshots and an album to collect moments
  • Two-minute check-ins fit anywhere

Not so good

  • Passive by design; nothing happens while you watch
  • Big furniture takes a long time to afford
  • Mature notes, not really for young kids

About Adorable Home

Adorable Home is a decoration sim. Unlock new rooms in your home and fill them up with adorable furniture while playing mini-games with cute cats!

Adorable Home was published on YouTube Playables on 2024-06-04 by HyperBeard Inc. In 858 days it has reached about 10M plays.

Adorable Home is a decoration sim. You unlock rooms one at a time and fill them with furniture you choose, shaping the place to your own taste rather than following a fixed design.

Between decorating there are mini-games with the cats, which breaks up the furnishing and keeps the tone calm. It suits players who want something to potter with rather than a challenge, and it opens free inside YouTube with nothing to install.

Good for: cozy game fans, cat lovers

How to play Adorable Home

Phone / tablet
Tap to cook meals and feed the cats, tap the shop to spend love on furniture, and tap a room to place what you bought.
Desktop
Same thing with the mouse: click meals, cats, shop and rooms; there are no keys to learn.
Progress
Love builds up over time; you come back, collect it, and spend it on furniture, decorations, new rooms and more cats. The album keeps the snapshots you take.

Love keeps accumulating while the game is closed, so the best move is usually to leave and come back rather than sit and wait.

Tips for more love, faster

  1. Feed everyone before you leave. A fed partner and fed cats keep the love coming while you're gone. Leaving on empty bowls is leaving money on the table.
  2. Buy the cheap stuff first. Early furniture is what starts new cat moments. The expensive pieces can wait until love is flowing.
  3. Get another cat before another lamp. More cats, more moments, more love. The developer says it plainly and it's true.
  4. Keep the camera handy. Snapshots go in the album and are half the reason to play. Check in when you'd expect the cats to be up to something.
  5. Stop hunting for codes. Code hunting is a phone-app hobby and a Reddit thread, not a plan. Nothing here replaced patience for me.

Adorable Home codes, and what actually speeds things up

A lot of people arrive here looking for codes. I'll be straight: I wouldn't build my plan around finding one, and the YouTube build gave me no reason to. What actually moves the needle is dull and works. Keep the bowls full before you close the game, because love accumulates while you're away and stops when there's nothing to earn it from. Spend early love on cats rather than decor, because cats generate the moments and the moments generate love. Check in a few times a day for a minute rather than once for an hour. The game was designed as a passive thing you visit, and playing it that way is the cheat.

Games like Adorable Home

The closest cousin is Neko Atsume: leave food out, come back, see which cats showed up. Adorable Home adds the house, the partner and the decorating, so there's more to own and more to look at, but the rhythm is identical. If you want more game in your cozy game, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp has the same collect-and-decorate pull with actual tasks to do while you're there. And if the part you like is the cats being silly, Adorable Home is the one of the three that gives you a camera for it.

How we rate

The TubeGames rating is our estimate, not a vote. It combines public ratings of the same game elsewhere (App Store 4.7★ (122,704 ratings)) with how it holds up on YouTube Playables: how many people play it and whether they keep playing weeks after launch. Once 10 players rate Adorable Home here, their average becomes the headline score.
