Shoot bubbles into colour groups and clear the board

Bubble Shooter HD is the arcade classic with no twist: a wall of colored bubbles, a launcher at the bottom, and you fire into groups of three or more to pop them. I knew what to do before the first bubble loaded, and that's the point. The first good moment came about a minute in, when one shot cut the support from a big cluster and half the board fell away.
What keeps you playing is the score chase. Popping the match is worth something; dropping everything that hung from it is worth more, so you start hunting for the bubble holding the most weight instead of the nearest match. Bank shots off the side walls are reliable here, which matters, because the good drops are usually tucked behind something you can't hit straight.
Complaints: it's thin. There's no story and no board gimmick, and the color mix goes from easy to cluttered without much in between. On a phone, a thumb over the launcher can hide the bubble you're about to fire. SOFTGAMES kept it plain, which is a compliment and a limitation.
Play it if you want a bubble shooter that gets out of your way. Skip it if you need the goals-and-boosters structure of the level-based ones to stay interested.

Bubble Shooter HD is the classic version of the game: aim from the bottom, fire a coloured bubble into a matching group of three or more, and that cluster drops away. Anything left hanging with nothing to hold it falls too.
Bank shots off the walls open angles you cannot hit directly, and that is where the scoring comes from. It is easy to start and easy to leave, and it plays free inside YouTube with no download.
How to play: Aim with a tap or drag and release to fire; match three or more of a colour.
Good for: casual players, high score chasers
Popping a match clears three bubbles; cutting the bubble that holds a cluster to the ceiling clears all of it, and that's where the score is.
Bubble Witch and its cousins turn the bubble shooter into a level campaign: goals, lives, boosters, a map. Bubble Shooter HD goes the other way. It's the arcade shape, the one from the old Puzzle Bobble era, where the only thing that matters is the score and how long you can hold the wall back. That makes it lighter and less demanding, and also less sticky; there's no next level to pull you back. I think of it as the version to play when you want the mechanic and none of the metagame. If you want a campaign with a shop, you'll find those elsewhere; this one is a board and a launcher.
The YouTube version is free and runs inside youtube.com, so there's nothing to download and nothing to sign up for beyond the YouTube account you probably already have. It works in the browser on desktop and in the YouTube app on phones. If you've seen the game on MSN or other portals, this is the same SOFTGAMES title; the difference is where it loads. In my sessions the YouTube version loaded fast and sat inside the normal page, and I could go from a video to a round and back without leaving the site.

The TubeGames rating is our estimate, not a vote. It combines how it holds up on YouTube Playables: how many people play it and whether they keep playing weeks after launch. Once 10 players rate Bubble Shooter HD here, their average becomes the headline score.
